Wild Daffodil Bulbs (Narcissus pseudonarcissus lobularis)

Price range: £19.20 through £6,960.00 inc VAT

The Wild Daffodil (Narcissus pseudonarcissus lobularis), also known as the Lent Lily, is the native British daffodil โ€” a smaller, more refined species than cultivated varieties, with soft grey-green leaves and elegant bicoloured flowers: pale cream-yellow petals surrounding a deeper golden-yellow trumpet. Heights reach 20โ€“30cm. It flowers from March to April.

Once widespread in British meadows and woodland, wild daffodil populations declined sharply through the twentieth century. Planting native stock in appropriate habitats helps restore this connection. It naturalises beautifully in unimproved meadow grass, open woodland, orchards, and hedgerow margins โ€” settings where it can establish undisturbed and build into drifts over time.

Plant in autumn at 8โ€“10cm depth in well-drained but moisture-retentive soil. It performs best in partial shade or dappled light, in grass managed with a late cut after the foliage has died back in June. Avoid cutting the meadow in spring โ€” the leaves must be left to feed the bulb before dying back naturally. Once established, wild daffodils spread reliably by offset and self-seeding.

UK native species. Sourced from reputable UK suppliers. A genuine native alternative to cultivated daffodil varieties.
