How this is worked out

Wildahome’s 80/20 meadow mixes are sown at 5g per square metre; our 100% wildflower mixes (no grass) are sown at 3g per square metre. The calculator simply multiplies your area by the correct rate, then matches the result to the nearest standard pack size across our range. Measuring your area

If you don’t know your exact area, pace it out and multiply length by width for a rough rectangle, or use an online mapping tool for an irregular plot. For odd shapes, break the area into rough rectangles or triangles and add the parts together — precision to the nearest few square metres is more than accurate enough; wildflower seed is forgiving of a slightly heavier or lighter sowing rate.

FAQs

Is this calculator accurate for every mix?

The sowing rate (5g/m² for 80/20, 3g/m² for 100%) is the same across all our habitat mixes, so the seed quantity is accurate for any of them. Pack sizes vary slightly mix to mix, so treat the suggested pack as a guide and check the exact sizes on the product page.

What if my area falls between two pack sizes?

Round up rather than down — a little extra seed does no harm, but under-sowing leaves gaps that weeds and coarse grass will fill.

Does this work for Seed & Mulch Mats too?

Mats are sold in fixed-coverage packs (three mats covering 7.5m² per pack) rather than by weight, so this calculator is for loose seed. For mat-based projects, divide your area by 7.5 to find the number of packs needed.
