Heavy Clay Wildflower Meadow Mix
£34.80 – £6,960.00Price range: £34.80 through £6,960.00 inc VAT
Heavy clay is one of the harder soils to establish wildflowers in โ it holds water in winter, bakes hard in summer, and competes strongly with grass. The Heavy Clay mix is specifically selected for this ground, with 23 native wildflower species predominantly made up of perennials that can handle these extremes.
The mix builds good habitat value for insects, bumblebees, and ground-nesting invertebrates over time. It suits garden meadows on London clay and similar heavy soils, farm margins on clay-heavy land, and amenity areas where standard mixes have previously failed to establish.
Sow at 3g per square metre. Soil preparation is critical on clay โ scarify thoroughly and create a fine, firm seedbed before sowing. Avoid sowing into waterlogged or compacted ground. Early autumn sowing (AugustโSeptember) works well, allowing seed to stratify over winter. Perennials will establish slowly in year one and improve substantially from year two onwards.
Sourced from UK meadows and partner farms. 100% wildflowers โ no grasses included.
